When it comes to thermostats, Honeywell is the oldest player on the market. With a history of over a century, Honeywell has produced some of the best thermostats that are currently in use.

One of them is, Honeywell Home RTH6360D1002, a 5-2 day programmable thermostat with Smart Response technology that easily adjusts the temperature of your home at a scheduled time. At the time of writing this article, the thermostat is available at a price of $47 on Amazon, which is relatively cheaper.

So if you are looking for a cheap thermostat with basic functions and not too fancy, the Honeywell Home RTH6360D1002 can be your best bet. But before you decide to buy this thermostat, have a look at its detailed review so you can judge whether to pick this one or not.

Let’s get started.

Honeywell Home RTH6360D1002: What’s New

The Honeywell Home RTH6360D1002 is a 5-2 day programmable thermostat from Resideo, the parent company of Honeywell Home. With this thermostat, you can schedule comfort throughout the week and weekend and save energy while you’re away.

Here are the key specifications of the RTH6360D1002:

  • ‎5.5 x 1 x 3.5 inches
  • 5-2 days programmable thermostat
  • White color
  • LCD screen
  • Heating and cooling control functions
  • Battery-powered

In the box, you’ll get an RTH6360D1002 thermostat, screws and anchors, UWP mounting system, and a quick installation guide.

Design and Display

At this price, you can’t be too picky about the design. It measures 5.5 x 1 x 3.5 inches and sports a rectangular design with curved edges. The color is white and blends well with the wall. From a distance, the RTH6360D1002 doesn’t look attractive and considering the price, it’s not worth considering.

Honeywell, however, did a great job adding a large LCD screen to this thermostat. Since you can’t always be too close to the screen, its large display and black font help you read the numbers from a fair distance.

Overall, the RTH6360D1002 has a fairly large easy-to-read display with a simple design.

Features and Performance

The Honeywell Home RTH6360D1002 comes with cool and modern features.

The 5-2-day or 1-week programming allows you to configure your workday routine separately from your weekend plan for added comfort and energy savings. Hold settings allow you to make changes to your programming as required, and your settings are saved in the thermostat’s memory even if the power goes off.

Each day, you can program four separate time periods, with varied options for weekdays and weekends. The pre-set settings are recommended since they can help you save money on your heating and cooling bills.

  • Wake – Set the time and temperature for when you want to get up and when you want to depart for the day.
  • Away – Set the time you want to leave and the temperature you want to be at while you’re gone (usually an energy-saving level).
  • Home – Set the timer for when you get home and the temperature you want for the rest of the evening until bedtime.
  • Sleep – Set the time you want to go to bed and the temperature you want your room to be at overnight (usually an energy-saving level).

This thermostat’s Smart Response learning capability means it can learn your heating/cooling cycle over time and deliver the ideal temperature when you need it. This function allows the thermostat to “learn” how long it takes the furnace and air conditioner to achieve preset temperature settings, ensuring that the temperature is reached when you specify.

For example, let’s say you set the alarm for 6 a.m. and the temperature to 70 degrees. The heat will be turned on before 6 a.m., bringing the temperature to 70 degrees by the time you get up at 6 a.m. This is called the recovery mode which your thermostat performs without using excess energy. When the system is triggered before the set time period, the message “Recovery” appears.

Aside from the new technology, this thermostat has all of the functionality you need. Current and setpoint temperatures, a real-time clock, and your option of Fahrenheit or Celsius are all shown on the big, illuminated display, and filter replacement and low battery notifications are two fewer things to worry about.

Talking about the battery, it is important to note that the RTH6360D1002 is battery-powered. When the low battery indicator shows, replace the batteries right away. You’ll be notified two months before the batteries run out.

Even if the low battery symbol does not display, batteries should be replaced once a year or before leaving the house for longer than a month. The time and day will not have to be reset if the batteries are placed within two minutes. The rest of the settings are saved in memory and do not require battery power.

Once you decide to remove the battery, make sure alkaline batteries are used as they are recommended by the company.

Installation and Setup

Now it’s time to learn about the installation process of the Honeywell Home RTH6360D1002 thermostat. If you have never done this before, you can call for professional help. However, installing a thermostat is easy and won’t take much of your time.

Here’s how you can install the RTH6360D1002 thermostat in your home.

Step 1: Turn off the power to your old thermostat at the breaker box that controls your heating/cooling system. It ensures your device’s safety.

Step 2: Check if the power is really turned off. To do that, try changing the temperature in your old thermostat. If you don’t hear any sound of the system turning on after 5 minutes, it means the power is off.

Step 3: Now remove the faceplate of your old thermostat, either by gently pulling it off or grasping it. Don’t remove the wires from your thermostat yet.

Step 4: This thermostat doesn’t work with a high-voltage system. If you are seeing 120/240V wires, it means the thermostat won’t work.

Step 5: Click a picture of your wiring for future reference. Make sure the letters are near the terminals where the wires will be placed. This will come in handy when it comes to wiring your thermostat.

Use the wire labels included in the package to mark each wire if the color of your wires has faded or if two terminals have the same wire color.

Step 6: Remove the jumpers as they are not required with the RTH6360 thermostat.

A jumper is a device that connects two terminals together. It might be a little staple or even a colorful wire, and it has to be removed before proceeding. Release wires from terminals with a screwdriver.

Step 7: Take note of the wires in the terminals and write down the color of the wires connected to the terminals. Note that the RTH6360 thermostat does not support L/A, S, or U terminals.

Step 8: Start disconnecting the wires from your old thermostat. Release wires from terminals with a screwdriver. When each wire is detached, use a wire label to identify it. The letter on the wire label and the letter on the terminal should match. Wrap the wires around a pencil to keep them from sliding back into the wall.

Step 9: Take the UWP mounting system or wall plate, included in the box, and insert the bundle of wires through the back of the UWP.

Step 10: Level the wall plate and mark the location where you want to place the anchors. Drill the holes and install the wall anchors.

Step 11: Now connect the thermostat with wires placing them gently in their respective positions. Confirm the wiring by matching it with the picture of the wiring you clicked on your old thermostat.

Step 12: Use the supplied screws to secure the UWP. To ensure a secure fit on your wall, use all three screws. When you’re finished, close the door.

Step 13: Don’t forget that this thermostat runs on a battery. So insert two alkaline batteries in the back of your thermostat.

Step 14: Align the thermostat with the UWP and secure it with a hard click.

Step 15: Turn on the electricity to the heating/cooling system at the breaker box or switch.
